I SEE MYSELF EVERYDAY

BUT I'M NOT SEEING MY BODY GETTING OLDER

I DON'T REMEMBER MY FACE WHEN I WAS YOUNG

I SAW PICTURES OF ME

I SAW PICTURES OF ME AS IF IT WAS SOMEBODY ELSE

PHOTOGRAPHIES

I'M AFRAID OF LOSING MY MEMORY

WHAT IS THE THING I WILL MISS THE MOST?

FACES?

PLACES?

COLORS?

Anatomy of Future Nostalgia is an exhibition project extending over several years and encompassing the entire world. It includes several video installations.

We are currently in the process of creating each individual video installation, one-by-one.

The final project, i.e. the presentation of all of these installations together, may come into being in two years, ten years, 100 years - or not at all.

Each installation is born of a meeting between ourselves - Gabriel Da Costa and Luca Carboni - and a place, and one of the inhabitants of that place, at a specific time.

If, for one reason or another, the need becomes apparent to immortalise this meeting, to keep a trace of it, we then create a video installation.

RULES WE FOLLOW FOR EACH INSTALLATION

IMAGE CAPTURE:

- Spend a defined period of time in the place with the people. The place and the inhabitants may be chosen by us or may be chosen for us by a third party.

- Capture images using several devices (e.g. cameras, smartphones, GoPros, webcams, computers, etc.).

- Allow a sufficient period of time in the place for a meeting to occur. The place should not merely be passed through - it must be experienced.

- Decide on the form and content of the installation during the time allowed for the meeting.

- The selected images must solidify something which touches us because of what it tells us about their ephemeral states - be it the the bodily casing, the destruction or degradation of material or an uncertainty as to the “perennation” of the images and the backup media we use to save them.

- The image must be convincing in reproducing, replacing and preserving the reality of the place, the people and the time.

- The image may also persist if it questions its own status as an image in the context of the concrete reality of what we saw in that place.

CREATION OF INSTALLATIONS

- Use plexiglass or glass cages.

- Present a juxtaposition and/or a superposition of images which are broadcast simultaneously.

- Be accompanied - or not - by subtitles and/or sounds.

- Be named “Faces and Standing Figures” followed by “Series 1, 2, 3, etc…” - following the order in which they were created.

- Be conceived as though they were created today - to be displayed in a museum in the future.

- Be presented in the place in which the installation was created.

- The time for completion may exceed the time allowed for the meeting.

- At each stage of creation of an installation, it may only exist if born of a collaboration between Gabriel and Luca.

- It would be desirable, where possible, if one or more of the previously created installations of Faces and Standing Figures could be presented alongside the new installation in the same place.
